PROCLAMATION MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS MONTH MAY 2021 WHEREAS MENTAL HEALTH IS PART OF OVERALL HEALTH AND HELPS TO SUSTAIN AN INDIVIDUAL'S THOUGHT. PROCESSES RELATIONSHIPS, PRODUCTIVITY AND ABILITY TO CHANGE OR FACE ADVERSITY. WHEREAS MENTAL ILLNESS ADVERSELY AFFECTS THOSE ABILITIES AND OFTEN HIS LIFE THREATENING IN NATURE. WHEREAS ONE IN FIVE AMERICANS HAS A MENTAL HEALTH CONDITION AND 12.8 MILLION ADULTS LIVE WITH A SEVERE MENTAL ILLNESS IN FLORIDA, 2,769,000 ADULTS HAVE A MENTAL HEALTH CONDITION.

WHEREAS APPROXIMATELY 50% OF MENTAL HEALTH OR MENTAL ILLNESS BEGINS BY AGE, 14 AND 75% BY THE AGE OF 24. WHEREAS EARLY IDENTIFICATION AND TREATMENT CAN MAKE A PROFOUND DIFFERENCE IN SUCCESSFUL MANAGEMENT OF MENTAL ILLNESS AND RECOVERY. AND WHEREAS THE NATIONAL ALLIANCE ON MENTAL ILLNESS. MARTIN COUNTY IS AVAILABLE TO SUPPORT EDUCATE AN ADVOCATE IN AREAS RELATED TO MENTAL ILLNESS AND MENTAL HEALTH AND OFFER VARIOUS SUPPORT GROUPS, CLASSES AND ACTIVITIES THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. AND WHEREAS EVERY CITIZEN AND COMMUNITY CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN HELPING, AND THE SILENCE AND STIGMA THAT FOR TOO LONG HAS SURROUNDED MENTAL ILLNESS AND DISCOURAGE PEOPLE FROM GETTING HELP. TWO PROCLAMATION. MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS MONTH MAY 2021 WHEREAS THE MENTAL HEALTH OF EVERY CITIZEN FAMILY BUSINESS OWNER AND RESIDENT OF STUART IS A CRITICAL FACTOR, AND IT'S EMOTIONAL AND ECONOMIC STABILITY. WHEREAS 44 MILLION AMERICAN ADULTS ROUGHLY 18% ARE

LIVING WITH A MENTAL ILLNESS AND 13% OF AMERICAN YOUTH AGE 12 TO 17 ARE LIVING WITH MAJOR DEPRESSION. AND WHEREAS IN 2020 COVERT 19, DEPRESSION, ANXIETY AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE DOUBLED FROM THE PREVIOUS YEAR'S FINDINGS OF ONE IN FIVE ADULTS TO TWO AND FIVE ADULTS WHO ARE DEALING WITH MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES. ROUGHLY TRANSLATING TRANSLATING FROM 20% TO 40% OF AMERICANS NEEDING MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES. AND WHEREAS THE FEDERAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY, OR FEMA, PREDICTS THAT THE PSYCHIATRIC IMPACT OF A DISASTER WILL HIT A COMMUNITY APPROXIMATELY 18 MONTHS AFTER THE DISASTER. AND WHEREAS STIGMA REMAINS THE PRIMARY OBSTACLE TO GETTING HELP. WHEREAS AS A COMMUNITY AS COMMUNITY LEADERS, WE MUST PREPARE FOR AN INCREASE IN DEMAND ON SERVICES THROUGH EDUCATION, OUTREACH AND EVER GREATER ACCESS TO CARE TO CARE TO ENSURE. OUR COMMUNITIES, OVERALL HEALTH AND ITS DUTY OF EACH AND EVERY ONE OF US TO PROVIDE CONTINUED CONSISTENT ACCESS TO RESOURCE IS TO MENTAL HEALTH CARE. I'M A MEMBER OF THE BOARD OF NEW HORIZONS, WHICH IS THE NONPROFIT COMMUNITY MENTAL HEALTH PROVIDER. OF MENTAL HEALTH AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE SERVICES THROUGHOUT THE TREASURE COAST. WE DIDN'T REALLY NEED COVERT TO REMIND US THAT MENTAL HEALTH IS TRULY IMPORTANT OR WE ALREADY HAVE 15,000 CLIENTS SPREAD OUT OVER OUR FOUR COUNTIES. BUT THIS IS CERTAINLY EXACERBATED EVERY PROBLEM THAT WE'VE BEEN EXPERIENCING. INTERESTINGLY OF THE SEVEN OUTPATIENTS OFFICES THAT WE OPERATE, STEWART IS THE BUSIEST AND THIS SPRING WE'RE GOING TO BE OPENING MEDICATION ASSISTED TREATMENT PROGRAM WITHIN OUR OFFICES. FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE SUFFERING FROM OPIOID ABUSE. WHILE WE WERE ALL RIGHTLY CONCERNED ABOUT THE COVERT EPIDEMIC, THE OPIOID EPIDEMIC HAS RAGED UNABATED, AND SO WE NEED TO GET THAT PROGRAM OPEN. WE HAVE PEER COUNSELORS WHO ARE NOW AVAILABLE TO CLEVELAND CLINIC, MARTIN. GO INTO THE ERS TO MEET WITH PEOPLE WHO COME IN WITH A DRUG OVERDOSE AND THE HOPES THAT UPON LEAVING, THEY'LL BE ON A PATH TO GET MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES, TOO. AVOID A RELAPSE.

WE HAVE TWO EMPLOYEES NOW HOUSED WITHIN THE SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT TO HELP THOSE WHO REALLY NEED MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES MORE THAN THEY NEED. INCARCERATION. AND SO THERE'S REALLY NO END TO WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE. AND TO THAT EXTENT, WE'RE REALLY. RAMPING UP OUR MOBILE RESPONSE UNIT WITHIN THE COMMUNITY. WE CAN COME TO ANY MENTAL HEALTH CRISIS 24 HOURS A DAY, ANYWHERE. AH, HOME A SCHOOL HERE ANYWHERE SOMEBODY IS HAVING A MENTAL HEALTH CRISIS. GET RID OF THE PROBLEM OF SOMEBODY NEEDING TO FIND US. WE CAN FIND THEM.
